What are Myelodysplastic Syndromes?
MDS is a group of diverse bone marrow failure disorders in which the bone marrow does not produce enough healthy blood cells. This can lead to low blood cell counts (cytopenias), which can cause symptoms such as infection, anemia, bleeding, and bruising. The mature blood cells circulating in the blood may also not function properly due to dysplasia, which is the abnormal shape and appearance, or morphology, of a cell.
